The Therma Hot Springs and Beach are situated some 10kms away from Kos Town and 35kms from Kardamena. A pool area has been created where the hot springs emerge into the sea. The water flows into it at a temperature of 45-50 degrees and mingles with the sea water creating different levels of heat across the pool area and more bearable ones beyond the pool area. The water is rich in many elements namely sulfur (the distinct smell is clearly identifiable), potassium, calcium, magnesium and has therapeutic benefits for the muscular and respiratory system, helping out in cases of arthritis, rheumatism, and liver, dermatologic, blood and ophthalmologic disorders.
The recent 2017 earthquake has increased the hot spring flow so the temperature of the water has risen quite a bit so visitors tend to stay a bit further away from the point where the spring flows out into the sea. Still the Therma Hot Springs remain one of the main attractions of the island and visitors tend to visit at all hours of the day and night even though it is situated in a relatively remote area of the island.
